I believe this is one for the trivia books. NPMK legitimately won the USSBA State Championship in its own stadium. Yes, North Penn HS hosted but the NPMK's were not the hosting band. See scores and photo's
Many of the bands drove long distances to compete on this school night. We thank all of them for taking the time to visit us this second time. This was a high water mark for NPMA volunteerisim, as the decision to host was made only five days earlier! (From the original rained out West Chester event)
It was a beautiful night. NPMK scored 91.25%, trouncing all the other Group V open bands. (Even though we were the only Group V open band) See Scores The band marched flawlessly and even scored extra points for creatively piping in a local radio station on top of Luke Heller's poised piano work and the accompanying narration. It sounded like a Yankee's vs Angels game. From my vantage point it looked like Rich Hammond came down half way through and encouraged Bryan to turn the radio up higher. The crowd booed loudly when Mr. Clayton instead turned off the radio station right before the closer. Bryan and crew promised to get the station in much clearer next time. <--- Please do not take seriously
The NPMK percussion section were a smoking prelude to the awards. With Lancaster Catholic clapped and dancing -- One crazy group.
Rain the next day gave the NPMK an early night off from the home coming Souderton Football game.
