It was pouring rain by the time the Knights hit the field. Did that stop them from scoring 80 points to win in their first outing?
It started raining about 5PM and steadily picked up. Almost all of the earlier bands looked quite uncomfortable. I don't know what Rich, Bryan and Kitch said to fire the band up but, we provided a clinic in poise, fortitude and grit that evening. I noticed the color guard did not do their opening back flip thingie on the turf (wise move) It was our first view of the closer. The sound that came from the field was beautiful and deafening. Except for that one strange buzz from the dripping electric piano before Rich pulled its life line.
Nazareth had a very good show right after us. Looking forward to seeing them again.
Hats off to the Lancaster Catholic crew that conducted the show. They were polite, cheerful and helpful. And we do know a thing or two about hosting competitions in the rain. The USSBA announcer who whistled rain show tunes and lead umbrella calisthenics helped keep our spirits up. Many of us, including the band, fled the scene after Nazareth. To those fair weather, NPTV surfers types... we need you to come on out and toughen up before the real sub-zero show downs. Next up Allentown.
